Pakistan Diary

How I ended up moving from Germany to Pakistan

At some point in life we need to get out of our comfort zone and leave behind everything we know and love.  Some of us are forced to get out of it and some want to get out of it and try something new. For me it’s a mixture of both. On one side I wanted to try something new and on the other hand I had to.

It all started when my parents decided that it’s time for me to get married. As Germany based Pakistanis they wanted a Pakistani guy for their daughter. At this point I didn’t gave this matter a second thought and let them do their thing. A few weeks passed and out of nowhere there was a rishta. Background checks were done and the results were satisfactory. Now it was on me to decide whether to proceed or not. I decided to give it a go and thought to myself as if this is going to work out, his family is in Pakistan and we are in Germany. One thing led to another and after sometime there was this big question “Is she willing to move to Pakistan?” At this point I realized that things had got pretty serious. Now it was again up to me to decide. Do I want to stay in Germany where my family and friends are and where I spend the most part of my life or do I want to leave all this behind and start from zero with a new family, making new friends a different country with different rules and regulations? I thought to myself why not and what’s the worst that can happen? So I decided to give it a go and one year later here I am married and living in Pakistan for 5 months now.

After spending a good amount of time in Pakistan I realized that visiting Pakistan for a few weeks is way different from living here. That’s just the beginning let’s see what the future holds for me.

  1. Oh my God. Okay… Wow, you must be really in love with this guy, huh? Haha. Well. I am truly amazed by your willingness and your patience. 😛 If I were in your shoes, I’d have stayed in Germany. Hahaha.

Well, I do like living here. Buuut, when the power goes out for hours and multiple times in a single day, and when there’s political unrest in the city and you’re stuck at home 24/7, these are the days when I wish I were living anywhere but here. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pakistan. It’s my home and forever will hold a special place in my heart. Just sometimes I wish that I’d wake up and it’d start snowing where I live 😛 Too much heat, ugh. :/

Anywho, congratulations on your wedding and welcome to Pakistan, Mehtab! Hope you like it here despite everything! 😀

    God bless!
